Swiss Alpenflage Camo - Where does the name come from? Well, from me, the owner of Swiss-Link. A long time ago, when the Swiss Army hadn't even released this camo yet, I came across a whole truckload of them (in the 1990s) that were meant for the dumpster. They had put big cuts in them so they couldn't be reused. With my connections, I was able to get those and send them to a repair shop where they were sewn back together. Since it was a new camo on the market, never seen before, we sold that truckload in a matter of one day. However, they were just called Swiss Camo. I thought that was boring and came up with the name Alpenflage. I even had the name trademarked. Now, the whole industry and even some Swiss Army officials are calling them Alpenflage.

I am not charging anyone to use my name for the camo but am pretty excited to see it is still used today. The reason they are called Alpenflage is pretty obvious. The Swiss are full of Alps, and the Swiss Army trains in the Alps all the time. Well, now you know the history of the name Alpenflage. The camo is pretty amazing, and the International Bird Watching Society in the late 90s deemed it the best overall camo ever conceived. The colors seem bright, but when you are in an outdoor environment, it blends in so well that we had to take pictures in a studio instead of in the field. There is not much of this awesome, comfortable Alpenflage left in the world, so get yours today.
